St. James Church Welcomes New Rector Published in The Coaster 9/02/04
The
Wardens and Vestry of St. James Church announced that the Rev. Frank
M. Goss has been called to become the parish’s new rector,
filling the vacancy left by the retirement of its former rector. Father
Goss will begin his tenure on September 5, 2004, and officiate for the first time at the 8:00
A.M. and 10:00 A.M. services. A
reception will follow the 10:00 AM service. A formal ceremony of Installation will take place later in the year. Father
Goss comes to St. James from St. Luke’s Church in Phillipsburg, New
Jersey, where he has served as rector since May 1, 1998. Prior to that, he
served at St. James Church in Montclair as assisting priest in 1997 and
1998, and as interim vicar of St. Gregory’s Church in Parsippany in
1997. Born
and raised in Montclair, New Jersey, Father Goss has spent most of his
ordained life in that area. Father Goss has a B.A. in Philosophy and
Classical Languages and a Master of Divinity (M. Div.) in Pastoral
Theology from Seton Hall University. Father Goss was received as a priest
into the Episcopal Church on May 17, 1997. Ordained
as priest at Sacred Heart Cathedral on May 26, 1973, Father Goss served as
a priest in the Roman Catholic Church for twenty-one years, serving at St.
Andrew’s Church in Westwood, Jersey City State College, Holy Family
Church in Nutley, Sacred Heart Church in Lyndhurst, and Sacred Heart
Cathedral in Newark. After the retirement of its former
rector, The Rev. Kenneth Gluckow, who is well known to the community, St.
James embarked on a search for a successor, under the leadership of the
Wardens, Ed King and Bruce Weiss, following the procedures prescribed by
the Diocese of New Jersey. The parish sought and obtained the
services of an interim vicar, The Rev. Anne M. Wrede, who has special
training at the Diocesan level to provide parish leadership as a priest
during a transitional search period. Mother Wrede will serve as interim
vicar of St. Stephen’s in Whiting following her stewardship at St.
James. Father Goss and his wife, Roseann, are
relocating to the Shore area from Phillipsburg and are looking forward to
spending time with friends from “down the shore.” Mrs. Goss has a B.S.
in Education and a Masters degree in Religious Studies from Villanova. She
has hospital chaplaincy certification and an interest in pastoral care and
parish life... See more news in the Archives section...
